The size of a marla is not the same everywhere. Until you say where your plot size comes from, this tool shows the result on both marla sizes side by side.

The two marla sizes differ by about 21%: a marla at 272.25 sq ft is about 21% larger than one at 225 sq ft. Your allotment letter or deed decides which one applies to your plot.

How it works
Every value is first converted to square feet and then to the other units, using these definitions:
- 1 marla = 225 sq ft or 272.25 sq ft, depending on the choice you make, or the size you enter under Advanced
- 1 kanal = 20 marla on that same marla size
- 1 sq yd = 9 sq ft
- 1 sq m = 10.7639 sq ft (1 sq ft = 0.09290304 sq m)
- 1 acre = 43,560 sq ft
Square feet, square yards, square metres and acres are the same whichever marla size you pick. Only marla and kanal change. Results show up to four decimal places.
Which marla size applies to you?
- Check your documents. Your deed, allotment letter or approved layout plan states the area. Use the marla size or the square feet written there, and compare it with this tool's result.
- What the rules say. The Punjab Private Housing Schemes Rules 2022 (Punjab Gazette Extraordinary, 26 December 2022), rule 2(1), define a marla as 225 sq ft in Lahore district and 272 sq ft in other districts of Punjab, and a kanal as 20 marlas, for the purposes of those rules. The earlier 2010 rules say the same. The Federal Board of Revenue's Gujranwala valuation notification, S.R.O. 337(I)/2022 of 2 March 2022, notes that in the case of housing societies a marla consists of 225 sq ft. These apply to the schemes and notifications they cover. They do not settle the question for every plot, and we did not find a source that defines the marla for Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan or Islamabad.
